Have you ever noticed that conservatives seem to delight in infuriating liberals? It's almost as if this is a key component of conservative governance. Billboards for conservative talk radio tout "guaranteed to drive liberals crazy." Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter proudly proclaim their love for driving liberals to the edge of insanity. Rudy Giuliani promised that, if elected, he'd be liberals' worst nightmare. The Bush administration drove liberals ga-ga every time they'd do something like appoint a coal-industry lobbyist as the mining safety czar or a global-warming denier as head of environmental policy. So it is with much joy that I imagine conservatives being driven over the edge today when Obama announced he'd use government resources to shore up our country's crumbling infrastructure. But talk about a contrast! Liberals get tweaked when Bush puts a union-buster in charge of the Labor Department. Conservatives get irate when Obama actually puts the government to good use, undoing the rot and carnage and demolition of the Bush years.
