Obama needs to jettison Tom Daschle, the tax-cheat he's chosen to be Secretary of HHS. Daschle is the epitome of a corrupt insider who's tied to the industry he's going to regulate. Didn't we have enough of this during Bush's reign of error? Nobody on the Hill is more closely tied to the healthcare industry and with this douchebag in the way, there's little chance we'll ever see real healthcare reform. Use the tax-cheating as an excuse to push the fucker under the bus or simply let him say he wants to spend more time with his family (notably his wife, the Lockheed mega-lobbyist). But just get rid of him.
See, here's the problem. Daschle underpaid his taxes by a hundred forty grand over a three-year period. He didn't fail to pay taxes on $140K; he underpaid by $140K. Considering the miniscule marginal tax rates zillionaires pay under Bush's tax code, this probably represents half a million dollars of income over three years, or about $165K per year. In very real terms, this represents roughly four times what that dipshit Joe the Plumber earns each year. Put that in perspective: the part of Daschle's income he forgot to pay taxes on is four times what Joe the Plumber makes in a year. Fair or not, as long as Democrats are seen as the party that wants to raise taxes on working-class stiffs, people like Daschle will be viewed as the scum of the Earth. Rightfully so, I might add.
